The “Handpan Guru” is a mobile app that features a special chatbot named “Handpan Guru” who draws most of his knowledge from the “Handpan-Timeline.org” Project.
The goal of this app, which I call “Handpan Guru,” is to provide people interested in handpans with a way to get reliable and accurate answers to questions about the handpan and its history. It’s also designed to be free and available on both platforms – Android and iOS.
The concept behind it is based on the idea of primarily drawing on the information collected and organized in the “Handpan Timeline” project as the Handpan Guru’s knowledge source. So, I’ve integrated this knowledge source into the app by storing the entire contents of the Handpan Timeline in a dedicated database (based on Supabase). The Handpan Guru accesses this database to generate its answers for app users. This ensures that the Guru doesn’t make up answers out of thin air, as many AI systems do.

The App is currently in a dynamic development phase and has been released for broad user testing. The app is available as a “Release Candidate” on both platforms (Google Play Store and Apple’s “TestFlight” App Store) and can be installed and tested by anyone. Feedback via email to ‘contact@handpan-guru.org’ is very welcome—and helps us further develop and optimize this app.
The next planned development step will be to allow users to rate the quality of answers within the app—and to have answers reviewed, verified, and, if necessary, revised and corrected by a team of “Handpan Guru Admins.” This will turn Handpan Guru into a curated knowledge base, and the quality of the answers will become even better and more reliable. To this end, there will be a structured web portal for these admins to carry out these reviews and corrections in a well-organized manner. Incidentally, this App does not collect any user data, is ad-free, supports multiple languages (currently English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, and Farsi), and stores questions and their answers in a structured format so they can be retrieved later. In addition, these “reminders” can be deleted, copied, and exported (tap and hold).
