Handpans, their history, and playing the Handpan are some of my greatest passions. But I’m also interested in technology.
So I decided to give it a try, based on the idea of creating a way for people to easily learn a lot about handpans. The challenge here is to incorporate the best possible sources of information about Handpans and their history.
So I tried to program an App that answers questions about handpans as well as possible. Drawing on the so-called “Handpan Guru” (I know, the name is a bit pretentious 😉 ) as a source of knowledge, I tried to incorporate the very comprehensive and well-structured entries from the “Handpan Timeline” project as my primary source of information.
The question now is, how well did it turn out on the first try?
The “Handpan Guru” app is still in development and definitely has plenty of room for improvement. Especially when it comes to the quality of the answers, I’d guess. You really have to keep bots like that on a tight leash and train them well – which is only possible if there’s a lot of testing and feedback 😉
In terms of functionality – that is, how the user or tester interacts with it—I think it’s already quite polished.
It supports multiple languages (and you can switch languages at any time), and questions and conversations with the “Handpan Guru” are saved and listed, so you can always revisit a topic. Saved conversations can also be exported or deleted…
By the way, the app doesn’t collect any data about the user or anything like that. I promise !
